Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Cottages

The reception at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Cottages, Ltd. is the Historic Swedo House which was the original hunting lodge/farmhouse, built between 1906 and 1908. It is located approximately half a mile from the Karen Blixen Museum (Bogani House from the film “Out of Africa”) and is a 30-minute drive from downtown Nairobi.

The luxury hotel cottages were built in 2001, and are adjacent to the Karen Golf and Country Club where guests can enjoy a host of leisure activities, including golf, tennis, and squash. A host of other amenities such as shops, restaurants, and financial services can all be found nearby, within the Karen suburb.

The Coffee Garden sits on 5 acres of land with large hundred-year-old trees, beautiful gardens and a pool, and hundreds of different varieties of blooming flowers, and a large population of birds. The historic Grogan/MacMillan Manor House is an additional historic feature that was moved brick by brick from downtown Nairobi to the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden in 2008 to save it from demolition. Amboseli National Park

Day 2: Amboseli National Park

Located in the southern reaches of Kenya, the Amboseli National Park is renowned for its excellent variety of wildlife such as Maasai giraffe, elephant, lion and cheetah and not surprisingly it is one of Kenya’s most popular parks. The landscape of Amboseli is dominated by the majestic snowcap of Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as open plains, acacia woodland, swamps and the massif of Ol Doinyo Orok. The birding is excellent, especially closer to the lakes and swamps. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to large herds of elephants among other wildlife species. Other attractions include opportunities to meet the Maasai people and soak up spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

| Day Notes

After breakfast drive to Amboseli National Park arriving in time for lunch at your camp/lodge. Amboseli National Park lies below the most famous symbol of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain standing at 5896 metres high. The waters of the mountain feed the seasonal swamps and marshes on which the game and birds rely on. It is here that photographers will hope to shoot the classic picture of the elephant or giraffe standing against the backdrop of the snow-capped mountain. After lunch proceed on an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at the Camp/lodge

Ol Tukai Lodge Amboseli

Ol Tukai Lodge is one of the best spots in the world to watch elephants with the backdrop of Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. Writers have described Ol Tukai and the surrounding Amboseli National Park as ‘a home for the gods’. A place of rugged beauty, abundant water, lush green grass and forest, set like an oasis in the surrounding savannah shrubland. To crown it all, this is where you get one of the world’s most awe-inspiring sights – dawn breaks and the sunsets over the 19,000-foot snow-capped dome of Africa’s highest mountain!
