Day 1 – 2: Ol Pejeta Conservancy
Resting at the foothills of Mount Kenya and the Aberdare Mountain Range, in central Kenya’s Laikipia County, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy is the largest black rhino sanctuary in East Africa. It is also home to some of the last remaining northern white rhino in the world. Originally a working cattle ranch in colonial Kenya and now a pioneering wildlife conservancy, Ol Pejeta works to protect wildlife and provide a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees. The Conservancy is a popular safari destination and is home to the renowned ‘Big Five’ as well as a wide selection of other African animals including zebra, giraffe, hippo, cheetah, jackal, serval, hyena, vervet monkey, and many more. Visitors can look forward to an assortment of outdoor activities such as horse rides, game walks, and nocturnal game drives.

Met on arrival ex Jomo Kenyatta International Airport or pick up from your hotel within Nairobi and drive North through the lush green fertile highlands to the rugged Laikipia plateau. On arrival at Nanyuki, we will proceed to Ol Pejeta conservancy, home to the famous Jane Goodall Chimpanzee Sanctuary checking into our camp in time for lunch. Thereafter we proceed on our first game drive where we can be able to spot lions, elephants, buffalos and even leopards if we are lucky! Nakuru is a fascinating city on the shores of western Kenya’s Lake Nakuru. The capital of Nakuru County located in the Great Rift Valley, about ten kilometres from the massive Menengai Crater. A hiking trail leads up to the rim of this ancient caldera, offering bird’s eye views over the lake and surrounds, and then plunges 400 metres down to the floor below, where visitors can walk among ancient forests. Lake Nakuru National Park, surrounding Nakuru, is home to exceptional birdlife, as well as over 50 varieties of mammals including lion, leopard, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, rhino, antelope and various primates. History and culture enthusiasts should make sure to visit the incredible Hyrax Hill prehistoric site.

After breakfast drive to Lake Nakuru National Park arriving in time for lunch at the lodge. The park used to be famous for its millions of pink flamingos that used to line the lake shores. The numbers have greatly reduced due to ecological changes. The Park is also Sanctuary to the Black Rhino, White Rhino and the Rothschild Giraffe. Bird life here is in abundance and includes common species like the lesser and Greater Flamingos, African fish Eagle, Tawny Eagle, Green Wood Hoopoes, Cliff Chat, Great White and Pink Backed Pelicans plus other intra- African Migrants. Lake Nakuru Sopa lodge is located on a range of hills that form the western limits of Africa’s great Rift valley, the Lodge offers spectacular views over the vastness of lake Nakuru and its surrounding National Park.
The park supports a wide ecological diversity with Flamingos and other water birds being the major attraction of the area. The ecosystem provides for about 56 different species of mammals including the white and black rhino, buffaloes and others.
The Lodge is 20km from the park main gate and 15 minutes’ drive from Naishi airstrip. Lodge accommodation consist of 60 rooms which include 2 inter-connecting rooms, 2 rooms accessible on wheel chair. Rooms are grouped into single, twin or triple rooms. All rooms have a clear view of the lake and you are able to view the sun rise from the balcony. All rooms have safe box, tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar is stocked on request and telephone extension are also provided in all rooms.

The safari ends with an early morning game drive, before packing up and enjoying breakfast with a last look at over the baboon cliffs, it’s time to say goodbye to a world-class safari but first we will stop at Naivasha for a safari walk at the Crescent Island and a boat ride. Thereafter you can opt for Lunch at one of the resorts around Naivasha OR drive back to Nairobi which takes approximately 02 hours. and proceed for lunch at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden. Later drop off at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight back home.
