Africa-Americas Tourism Summit Sets Stage for Global Cooperation

Categories: Newsletters

Tourism leaders from Africa and the Americas have committed to leveraging the sector as a driver for sustainable and inclusive development. At the first joint meeting of UN Tourism’s Regional Commissions for Africa and the Americas, the Punta Cana Declaration was adopted after two days of in-depth discussions focused on education, investment, and cross-regional collaboration.

The summit, which brought together 27 countries, emphasized the importance of strategic investments, skills development, and fostering innovation within the tourism industry. With public-private partnerships and the creative industries playing key roles, the declaration sets a clear path for stronger cooperation between Africa and the Americas, ultimately aiming to boost tourism, protect shared cultural heritage, and create lasting economic impacts.

As a DMC, this collaboration opens new opportunities for creating tailored travel experiences, showcasing the rich diversity of both continents, and supporting sustainable tourism growth. Kenya’s position as a leading destination, alongside Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, and Zanzibar, is poised to benefit greatly from these strengthened ties, offering travelers unique cultural exchanges and unforgettable journeys.
