This Maasai Mara safari package is a private, 6-day fly-in safari from Nairobi. You spend four nights at Karen Blixen Camp, a luxury tented camp on the Mara River in the Mara North Conservancy. Instead of a long road journey, you take a short scenic flight from Wilson Airport, so you have more time on game drives in one of Africa’s best areas for big cats.
The Mara North Conservancy borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve. It has fewer vehicles than the reserve, and it allows activities the reserve doesn’t, such as night game drives and guided bush walks. The safari includes a game drive to Leopard Gorge, made famous by the BBC’s Big Cat Diary, as well as time to relax by the pool, visit a Maasai manyatta or take an optional sunrise hot air balloon flight over the Mara plains. It ends with lunch at Karen Blixen Coffee Gardens in Nairobi before your flight home.

Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi – Tamarind Tree Hotel
🛏 Overnight: Tamarind Tree Hotel (Bed & Breakfast)
Your driver-guide meets you at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and takes you to Tamarind Tree Hotel, where you spend the night on a bed and breakfast basis.
Day 2: Fly to the Maasai Mara & First Game Drive
🛏 Overnight: Karen Blixen Camp (All Meals)
After breakfast, your driver-guide takes you to Wilson Airport for a morning flight to the Maasai Mara. At the airstrip, your professional guide picks you up and you game drive on the way to Karen Blixen Camp, arriving in time for lunch. Check in, have lunch and relax. In the afternoon, set out on your first Maasai Mara game drive to look for lions, cheetahs and other predators until late in the evening.
Day 3: Leopard Gorge & Night Game Drive

After breakfast, take a morning game drive to the well-known Leopard Gorge, made famous by the BBC’s Big Cat Diary. Before or after lunch, choose a camp eco-walk, a swim, watching game from the deck with a drink, a spa treatment or a visit to a nearby Maasai manyatta. In the evening, go on a night game drive, which the Mara North Conservancy allows, to look for animals that are active after dark.
Day 4: Sunrise Balloon Flight or Morning Game Drive & the Big Five
🛏 Overnight: Karen Blixen Camp (All Meals)
Go on an early morning game drive, or choose the optional balloon flight below. Return to camp for lunch. In the late afternoon, head out on another game drive in the Mara North Conservancy to look for the Big Five: lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and, if you’re lucky, rhino.
🎈 Optional (extra cost): Hot air balloon safari. Get up before dawn for a hot air balloon flight over the Maasai Mara, followed by a champagne bush breakfast. Balloon flights sell out in peak season, so ask our team to pre-book yours when you confirm.
Day 5: Early-Morning & Afternoon Game Drives
🛏 Overnight: Karen Blixen Camp (All Meals)
Head out at first light to catch lions, leopards and hyenas returning to cover after a night of hunting. Return to camp to rest and enjoy the swimming pool. In the afternoon, take a final game drive across the Mara plains.
Day 6: Fly to Nairobi – Lunch at Karen Blixen Coffee Gardens – Departure
After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your flight back to Nairobi. Your guide meets you at Wilson Airport for last-minute shopping, followed by lunch at Karen Blixen Coffee Gardens. Afterwards, we take you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for your flight home, or drop you at your Nairobi hotel or home.
