NEW DESTINATIONS TO EXPLORE
Kajulu Forest: The New Eco-Tourism Gem in Kenya
Kajulu Forest has emerged as a new eco-tourism attraction in Kenya, marking its significance in the Western Tourism Circuit. Recently selected by the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, Kajulu Forest was chosen as the launch site for the “One Tourist, One Tree” campaign, aimed at positioning the area as a premier eco-tourism destination. This initiative aligns with Kenya’s vision of sustainability, encouraging visitors to reduce their carbon footprint by planting trees while exploring the natural beauty and biodiversity of the forest.
As part of UN’s World Tourism Week 2024, the initiative underscores the forest’s rich ecological value, with indigenous trees being restored to revive lost springs and wildlife habitats. Led by the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) and in partnership with the County Government of Kisumu and the local community, Kajulu Forest is poised to become a hub for eco-conscious travelers and nature enthusiasts.

In addition to being a serene escape for hikers, birdwatchers, and campers, Kajulu Forest is now seen as a transformative project for local communities, with the forest’s rejuvenation offering both environmental and economic benefits. Future plans include enhancing eco-tourism offerings, such as potential zip-line boardwalks, all while creating sustainable tourism practices that ensure the forest thrives for generations to come.
Kajulu Forest’s revival showcases how Kenya is making strides in sustainable tourism, providing unique experiences for travelers and solidifying the region as a key player in global eco-tourism.
